‘Changeable’ sums it up nicely.
At the risk of sounding like a wishy-washy weatherman, it is looking ‘changeable’. There’s money on the forecast below ‘changing’ before the day is out as well.
It does look dry-ish on most of the weather sites and with mild temps, a bit of wind and a bit of sun it may yet make a semi-decent riding weekend. There has been some rain through the week, so underwheel won’t be the dusty conditions that we’ve had recently; consequently if it stays dry then it should be good, but if it is a little drizzly expect a few greasy sections.
A quick reminder too - it’s round three of the British Downhill Series up at Glencoe this weekend and round three of the Schwalbe British and Euro 4X Champs at Afan. If you aren’t riding your bike this weekend then you really should be spectating!

The boardwalk is back open for business, but will be shut again in the near future for a second coat. Keep your eyes on the website for updates.
Otherwise enjoy!

If you go down to the woods today…
…then be aware that the boardwalk section at the end of the Red Run is closed to have non-slip paint applied.
There will be a detour in place and it should be open again midweek, weather allowing.
Nice!

Mild, but mainly dry.
It looks like another mild but slightly unsettled weekend. The light rain forecast for the rest of the day should do nothing more than help firm everything up, and while tomorrow won’t be particularly warm it should be dry, making it a very good day for riding.
Sunday is looking like there could be some rain; if it’s anything more than a slight drizzle it could make riding greasy for a few hours, but otherwise should continue to help to keep the dust down.
Overall it’s looking pretty good, so if you aren’t racing in Germany this weekend or watching the XC World Cup in Dalby, it’s a good opportunity to get some quiet runs in!

Weather and conditions
Unsettled and mild.
The milder weather looks like it’s here for a bit longer, which is good thing for the Hill. While the weather shouldn’t cause you too much sunburn, the occasional showers will be adding much-needed moisture to the ground which will make conditions better for the next few weeks.
However, this weekend the exposed chalk and dry, loose dirt could easily get greasy and claggy after any heavy or prolonged showers - Saturday morning might have a few greasy patches after overnight rain and colder temperatures. While there’s nothing else particularly horrendous forecast, it doesn’t hurt to be aware!

Aston Hill racer and all round good lass Katie Potter has had her bike stolen down in Hampshire.
It’s a small white Knolly Endorphin (pics below); quite a unique bike, so if you see one please put a message on the Facebook thread for Katie. Cheers!

Wendover Woods’ Cafe in the Woods will be coming over to Aston Hill to serve up lashings of fine food for weary riders from this weekend. If you’re lucky there may even be some ginger beer as well!
As anyone who’s attended an Aston Hill race in the past will know, the Cafe pride themselves on offering good quality - and where possible - locally sourced food; it may not be the cheapest, but it really is the best. They also have an active policy of serving good portions of wholesome food, which is great for hungry riders. You can read about where their food comes from here.
John from the Cafe will be on-site from 12pm onwards on Saturdays and Sundays for the next month.
This may not be completely representative of a Cafe in the Woods burger.

Warm and wet.
It’s been a glorious few weeks without rain, but that looks set to change over the weekend. The reports all differ slightly, but essentially it looks like there’s going to be a good amount of the wet stuff around both Friday and Saturday nights, with occasional showers during the day.
The ground undoubtedly needs some rain, so while some showers will really help settle the dust and firm everything up again the exposed chalk and dry, loose dirt could easily get greasy and claggy after any heavy or prolonged showers, especially on the more popular and dusty lines. The warm temps should see things drying out quickly though, so conditions could be quite special later on Saturday if the Metcheck forecast is correct.
