Get involved!

Ever wondered how these amazing trails got there? Contrary to popular belief, pixies didn’t fall from the sky and create the runs you know and love; it took lots of hard graft and several tonnes of type two soil. But then who said that anything worthwhile is easy?

So you want to help with some trail maintenance? Want to put something into the centre and make your mark on the park? Fancy hanging out with the magical Aston Hillbilly pixies? OK, but I’ll warn you now - it’s hard, hands-on work. You’ll have to do interesting tasks like chopping up stumps and carrying large pieces of wood about, but you’ll be working with a small team creating what we like to think of as magic, deep in the woods.

Still want to give it a go? OK - you asked for it! Check out the dig day page to see when the next one is and sign up to our digging mailing list to be told first when we’re having a trail care session - extra hands are always welcome!

    Hi
We would like to offer riders a discount in our store and possibly sponsor events/trails and become a friend of the club.
Please let me know if this is possible.

    Hi there,
Apologies but I’m probably being thick butI can’t find a feedback page. I just wanted to say that I’ve always found Aston hill a brilliant place to ride, yet recently a friend of mine came along on his own for the first time and noted that the signage was really poor. If I now think about it, there’s nothing to tell you where the cross country downhill begins (red run) or DH3? - I know where they start from experience, but to someone new there is nothing. Just wanted to pass on!

  6. Cheers Dominic,

The signage is actually being sorted at the mo, it’s just taking a while whilst we sort this new trail.

It is one of our top priorities though.

I am not a biker but a resident of the area. I noticed yesterday there is a place on the red track called Daniel’s Hole and is referred to as a bomb hole. I would be grateful for any information as to how the hole was caused and when.

    Many thanks in advance

hi im working in the area and wondered if there was any night rides at aston hill as id like to ride the trail but dont finish work til 6ish stil dark, are there any organised rides or can you just turn up park and ride, what time does the place shut etc any advise would be good cheers

  10. Hi Mark,

Unfortunately for Insurance purposes we can only open the Hill during the day. The gates open at 8am and close when it starts to get dark, I think currently the gates shut at 4pm.

If you decide to ride after the gates are shut you do so at your own risk and we’d advise you don’t ride alone in case of emergency.

    Hi Egon,

Sorry - but the committee here is made up purely of volunteers. Your best bet is to speak to the Forestry Commission to see what vacancies they have there, or possibly even look at working at one of the bike parks in the Alps (such as Leogang or Les Gets).

    Good luck!

    Hi

I am keen to come and start riding at Aston Hill again ASAP, but I thought that I’d better check the weather situation before I travel to you. Have you been hit by the floods or are the trails still rideable? It’s the DH trails that interest me…

    Cheers

    Hi

I want to set up an uplift service at the weekends.2 bikes+riders at a time by quad and trailer…..

I want to charge for the running of the quad and was thinking prehaps 50p a run per bike or summat..

    Hi Bob,

Interesting idea. Your first point of contact here should be the Forestry Commission (as it’s their land). Their contact details are at the bottom of this page: http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-7GKDR6

They can advise you on whether a quad and trailer would be suitable for the tracks between the top and bottom of the Hill, as well as the issues surrounding public liability insurance.

    Hey,

Few of my m8′s are coming up this wkend and they are asking me to tag along and film them.
Whats it like in terms of getting around on foot up there and being able to see whats going down - am I gonna get a 5 second clip of them hooning past me and then that’ll be it for an hour ?

  19. NeilNeil on said:

Everything’s pretty close together - getting round on foot really isn’t a problem. You will be knackered at the end of the day (best start at the bottom and film moving up the hill, or vice versa) and plan the riders’ runs, but everything starts and finishes in the same place and it’s not too hard to traverse the hill between trails.

Is the Surface To Air open on Sunday 14th of sep?

    Thanks , Nath

  23. NeilNeil on said:

    Hi Nath,

As far as I’m aware, it’s open. It was only shut on the 7th Sept for the Mashup race. If you want to make sure, ask on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/AstonHillBikePark - one of the trail managers will be able to give you a definite yes or no.

    Cheers,

    Hi

I am living in Turkey. But, ı am at London now. I am learning English. I have Trance 27,5 and I am downhill driver. I want to go the astonhill ride park to Sunday. (01.02.2019) my house is in the Winchmore Hill. Could you help me for train line? I want to come with my bike. I checked train line, tube (undergraund) take on imposibble with my bike. My mail adres [email protected]. If you can send E-mail ( for I and my bike transportation ), ı can come astonhill bike bike. Thanks in advance. Best regards

    Hi there,

If you take your bike on the train from Winchmore Hill down to Moorgate, it looks like you can take your bike on the Central line from Moorgate through to Euston Street or Baker Street. From Euston Street you can get to Euston station (about 200m) where you can catch a train to Tring. From Baker Street you can walk to Marylebone where you can catch a train to Wendover. From Tring Aston Hill is about a 30min ride and from Wendover it’s about a 20 minutes. Have a look at https://www.tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/ for help getting round London.

Otherwise your best bet is to go onto the Aston Hill facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AstonHillBikePark) and other Facebook groups, such as South East Mountain Bikers (https://www.facebook.com/groups/southeastmountainbikers/), and try and sort out a lift. There’s plenty of riders in north London who should be able to help out.

Finally, be aware that Aston Hill will be very slippery in February!

    Good luck,

    Neil
